This course is an in-depth conversation about civil resistance—understood as a nonviolent struggle that is planned and waged by ordinary people—and its force to bring about major political, economic, or social change.
The course will address how and why civil resistance movements work, their historical record and outcomes, and the dynamics of asymmetric conflicts waged by civil resistance
movements. Drawing from this basis of understanding, we will look at how knowledge of civil resistance can better inform foreign policy formulations, including external assistance to civil resistance movements.
